Historical History at its Best

"Songbirds are Free" is the story of Mary Neely. Maria was kidnapped and held prisoner by a group of Shawnee Indians. Suspense, Thriller author PM Terrell transported me to another time and place, as she pulled me into this. I have experienced, with Mary, the difficulty of survival, crisis day. I was challenged to understand in a new light on these confusing issues of the settlers toward the Indians and the British in settingRevolutionary War.

I have a whole new image of the culture, traditions and the ferocity of the Indians when they were forced, in the hope that the new location to move to determine. Battles Indians in the Saturday matinee westerns of my childhood shows were replaced with a new reality. I was immersed in the vision in terms of beliefs, customs and survival techniques of soldiers, settlers and Indians, the principles have been replaced with bigotry,Cruelty, abuse and revenge.

Maria was adopted and his life was spared because his songs. The Indians gave him the name of "Songbird" because of their voice and singing and melodies. They sang songs and poems, as they had planned their escape, for a period of two years imprisonment.

Maria's story parallel movements and those of Lieutenant Jim Hawkins as they traveled the rivers and the limits of what we now know that Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois and Michigan in Canada, EastNew York, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

This is a book for readers of historical fiction and those who enjoy suspense, action and romance. Terrell writing is strong, his research impeccable. The dialogue helps the reader in the story. Selected photos of the exhibition highlights the locations from the book add another dimension of appreciation for the credibility of this heroic story of perseverance and hope in the face of adversity. Mary Neely was truly a remarkableWoman.
