"Anita's Heaven" by Norman Ober - Book Review

Anita's Heaven

by Norman Ober

Blooming Twig Books

ISBN 9781933918112

"Anita's Heaven" is not your typical book. First, it is a beautiful story about a love that is so strong that it even transcends death. There are actually two authors to this true story, Norman Ober, and his late wife Anita. Norman was completely devastated when Anita passed away from cancer in 1990 and was completely shocked in 1993 when he started receiving messages from her from the other side. Norman, a self-professed, lifetime atheist at the time, finally started believing that this was his wife trying to communicate with him. They were able to communicate best through automatic writing, mostly on the computer as the best method to communicate. This book cleverly combines over 3,000 messages from Anita and heartwarming stories of Norman and Anita's life together. Their wonderful sense of humor and dedication to each other will make you love them by the end of the book.

In chapter 55, the author beautifully sums up the reason for "Anita's Heaven." "This book is about our commitment to love forever and to show grievers that they can love and be happy, homosexuals that there is salvation for them, women that their fight for equality is being fought in heaven and all of us can reach out to and find our lost loves, can believe in God and heaven if we don't now, with or without clerical help. Anita's letters talk about the afterlife open to all whether we pray or not, believe now or never did." Anita's letters are full of information and hope about where we go when we pass away. She describes God's love as kind and gentle, not wrathful and vindictive. She also describes life in nine other universes as well as our own and gives information about why we all exist. During this time, Norman begins to realize and accept that there really is a God and that life does indeed make sense.

I found this to be an excellent book and a validation that the fundamental view of judgment and punishment after death does not exist. You walk away with a sense of awe about our universe and about who we really are when we are not here. I highly recommend "Anita's Heaven" to people who enjoy love stories and are interested in life after death.

Book Review - Nonprofit Nonsense and Common Sense - By Marshall McNott

เขียนโดย Eva | 01:30

Insights into the Operations and Funding of Nonprofit Organizations

Marshall McNott in his new book "Nonprofit Nonsense and Common Sense" has provided a valuable service to the Leadership Staff and Board of Directors of Nonprofit organizations, to the supporters of these programs, and to Foundations considering applications for grants.

McNott has chosen to use composite examples and sometimes fictional illustrations to provide suggestions for successful guidelines and principles. He begins by providing donors with "enlightenment questions" to ask. I appreciated Marshall's candid approach in guiding the reader through the many sides of fundraising, motivation, ethics of stewardship and absolute integrity in every area of operation.

A long career in Management in working with nonprofit organizations, as well as a wide variety of related roles: board member, consultant, and "servant" Marshall McNott knows every facet of nonprofit organizations and faith based ministries. He gives insights from a staff perspective, from the Board room, and as an outside looking in, offering constructive, practical advice for getting to the bottom of critical and significant issues being faced by nonprofit organizations today.

I found the chapter dealing with the Board of Directors, and their commitment to the CEO of the organization was significant. A number of suggested direct and pertinent questions provide the opportunity for accountability and the "iron to sharpening iron" concept.

"Nonprofit Nonsense & Common Sense" is an important and timely book. Everyone involved in a
nonprofit organization or ministry whether serving as a volunteer, a board member, as an executive, a staff member, or donor, will find insights and answers regarding their role in serving others.

Book Review - Coyote Jack, Jack Lyndon Thomas

เขียนโดย Eva | 21:38

An important role, relevant Memoir of Vietnam veteran

"Coyote Jack", written by Jack Lyndon Thomas shows a startling vision of the soul of a man. Thomas grew up in a time of profound changes in values, respect for authority and a redefinition of patriotism. Thomas had a sensitivity and understanding of human needs, emotional, mental and physical. This book speaks of thousands of people, their land was the brave, in a matter of ideals questionable.

The authorhas become more vulnerable as he told the complex issues of personal discovery in parallel by his experiences in Vietnam, with the reconciliation of his personal search for contentment and creative expression.

Thomas described a comprehensive understanding and culture of Vietnam to try to understand the politics and religion of the country and his appreciation for the natural features of the landscape and topography of the landscape. Described in words of poetryBeauty of the peasants who lived in rural areas.

The author went on to describe the leadership ineffective, the ill-defined goals and objectives of the leaders of the country. He said the internal conflict he felt the center of the conflict outside registered a round. This has often been attributed to the lack of a solid support and implementation of policies and the man in the street in the United States.

I particularly liked the deep poems and statementsintroduce each chapter. Part II of the book with colorful maps and beautiful photographs awakened all my senses, culture, land and people that influenced the life of young Jack Lyndon Thomas through his experience in Viet Nam.

Thomas is a talented, creative, articulate. This is a remarkable account of a period of history of the United States must be reconsidered and be understood. "Coyote Jack" is a book for every veteran, every soldier andWomen currently serving our country and for everyone in a position of leadership, influence decisions were made in planning our country's current military strategy.

The central question in "The Carrot Principle" is to arouse the enthusiasm and motivation for employees. The authors of the book, Adrian Gostick and Chester Elton, argue that the main catalyst for this effort is a recognition.

The first part of the book begins with the experiments of Charles Goodyear, the hard work, failures and ultimate success in the next with the prototype of the modern rubber industry. Book Review - The Post-American World by Fareed Zakaria

เขียนโดย Eva | 20:18

In our turbulent world, it is tempting to see America as surrounded by enemies intent on our destruction. Everywhere we look, we are able to understand the signs of American decline. Often, especially in a period of economic turmoil to our installation problems can be impassable. But sometimes, just look at the world from a different perspective can help us gain perspective. And when the lens of one of the most acute observers of the contemporary scene in the world, however, but may help to take us allTake a deep breath and relax.

The Post-American World, best-selling author Fareed Zakaria takes a look at the place of the United States in the world, and explains why we have reason for optimism. Zakaria was born in India, in this country came as clumsy and naive, eighteen years in the depths of the recession of the early 1980s. What he found, and what we see all around us today is a dynamic country and expansive, open to new ideas and the will, the world has to offer to show. What has changed in today's world, he explains, the United States did not, but it is simply the rest of the world running to catch us. And while this new era in which ideas and aspirations of the American world, inspired to be connected in the following specific challenges need not so frightening as the pessimists and even-Sager will. In his view, the key to understanding our changing world to recognize that America is not really behind, but the restthe world is increasing. And when we are tempted to react by withdrawing the withdrawal of the Fort and then in America, secure in our faith in their own superiority, we have a game that other civilizations in the past could not play and probably show our leadership in the future.

The author cites the lessons of history is the example of China, another major country that was once at the forefront of dimensions. Almost a century before Columbus, in the early 1400,set a series of shipments from China here, with hundreds of ships, each larger than a Spanish galleon, carrying thousands of men. They sailed along the east coast and south-east Asia in the Indian Ocean, and fired, he met with the majesty and power of the Chinese civilization, and return with treasures like precious stones, exotic plants and animals. Come the middle of the century, that cancels everything: a new emperor in power, who pays for these trips, asunnecessary and costly extravagance of little benefit for China. Before the end of the next century, construction of similar vessels were forbidden under pain of death, and vast areas of forest have been burned to make similar undertakings in the future impossible. And so China, convinced of his superiority, he withdrew from external contact to close in about ... and it was not long before he had the rest of the world, given the stagnant Chinese culture in all types of benefits. Tookapproaching six centuries of struggle to the fore once again, and now, having learned the lesson of history, seem determined not to repeat the mistake.

Today when we are faced with threats from many quarters, Zakaria reminds us that often do not realize how lucky we are to live in an age of abundance and age of discovery and adventure. Now that America has led the way, the rest of the world races in step with us. But he warns, should not treat their efforts withSuspicion or contempt, but there should be submitted to embrace the future through our ideals because it is precisely these ideals that have long inspired the world.

First, many of our resources are the American culture and people. Both are with the resistance and full of optimism. The American spirit of innovation comes from the openness of our culture and off-beat and heretics, and the embrace of welcome, showed us the best and brightest from around the world. It demonstrates, despite the imperfection of our much derided as education, the author, that most of our problems stem from differences in our country is, the author notes, a wider gap between the students of our typical , middle schools and impoverished schools in the city center, as among our best and the best from the rest of the world. And while we mourn our own results of waste, others are in fact the United States to learn ourTechniques. And what they are very impressed by what we take for granted the willingness of students to teachers to challenge their courage to speak, are in class, and their ability to continue to apply what is taught in their everyday creativity. While the rest of the world can teach us to fly their students to take standardized tests and our system to produce people who can be innovative, ready to beat the traditional conventions in question. Our culture seems to be considered hereticaland extravagant, and why our schools are not as squash from our students, as well as some countries, these same extravagant endure to maintain our culture cool.

We are the comparison, the British Empire from its heyday, Zakaria is that Britain, if the fortune of talented statesmen, has been burdened by a dysfunctional economic system and culture that stifled the creative impulses in British society. In different ways, America's Cup is just the opposite: We have a vibrant, dynamic culturethat remains the envy of the world, but one that with a political system that often seems to matter most to gain temporary partisan political advantage than when the country is charged to the front. And where our culture is enjoying an influx of immigrants to bring the energy, ambition and new ideas with them, we often confuse the challenges they bring to the danger, instead of looking at what they are and have always been : a valuable source of renewal.

Hypocrisywell written, with a global perspective that is often missing in today's commentators filled, The Post-American World offers hope and perspective. It is not written in the treble of the academic world, but was born with a precision of thought and deep understanding. Those who are interested in understanding the United States in the world, past, present and future, would do well to read carefully. The world needs an America that is, embodies the free spirit and sense of adventure, we have always supportedgranted. That is, the author concludes, this country really matter in the world and the reason that most people look upon the earth, neither the United States with good intentions. It would be a shame if she stayed back because of incorrect attempts, the future that we are America, we ... wasted and forced the world to search for a new one.

Four Agreements: A book review of

เขียนโดย Eva | 19:47

Often, self-help authors would complicate things as they are. Don Miguel Ruiz, author of four agreements: A practical guide to personal freedom, is not one of them. Instead, he summarizes the essence of self-control to four simple rules. These are: be impeccable with your word, do not take anything personally, do not make assumptions and always do your best.

Some reviewers of this book have accused Ruiz of oversimplifying things, while othersto say that he has four rules apply, and then discussed to fill a book. I disagree. He seems to have taken exactly the right balance between speaking a point to death on one side and omitting relevant explanatory information on the others.

Ruiz four agreements are a distillation of ancient Toltec wisdom. Scientists probably this debate. What is true is that many are in slightly different form, are the backboneteachings of the world, the wisdom and spiritual traditions.

The deal, personally I think the warning: "Do things in person," the most valuable and perhaps more difficult. I always remind me once again that if people treat me badly or toxic target words for me, their approach is really about them, not me.

In reality it is something more than just a book of Ruiz, his explanation of the four agreements. A chapter entitled "The Path to ToltecFreedom "interweaves the agreement to form a coherent whole and provides a way to serve his life by breaking old agreements that impose only to renew it. This is another way of saying that your life will change, you need to defeat the beliefs change that has brought about with you - faith in you by your parents, your colleagues, school or just teach only the general culture.

Ruiz concludes with some techniques and ideas for awakening from the intellectual andemotional hell, which many people find themselves. "Happiness is a choice," he says, "and so is suffering. ... To live in hell, or who live in heaven. My choice is to live in heaven. What's that?

As a result, Silberstein focuses on the representation of the terrorist attacks in presidential speeches, articles and mediaEyewitness accounts

The most interesting part of the book is in my opinion the coverage, the realization of many important meanings and messages. For example, a sentence in Persian means about the image of two Afghans, that Iran is a supporter of terrorism.

"It 'important to consider the condition of the special atmosphere that surrounds the consequences, like Sandra Silberstein, in his book" A War of Words: Language, Politics and 9 / 11 (Routledge, 2002)

Book Review - The Organizational Perspective by Steven Ott

เขียนโดย Eva | 05:18

This book is more or less a textbook on the organizational culture. It was written with an aim of creating awareness about the nature, structure, elements, approaches, methods, functions, and the manner of thinking of organizational culture. In addition, this book is a "cry after the outbreak of the information systems / logical positivist / quasi-experimental form, that has provided an intellectual and emotional straitjacket of organizational theory and theoristsFor too many years (ix). "It is clear from this statement, this book was written at a time when organizational culture perspective, is only just beginning to gain in importance and organizational theory has only just begun to move on structures.

We divide the book into two halves. First four chapters discuss the general concepts and terminology used in the field of organizational culture. In addition, sources for the origin, development and maintenanceculture are also discussed. The second half of the book describes the development of cultural perspectives and methodological approaches to the study of culture in organizations.

Although the concepts associated with this perspective are often used, is the distinction between different concepts is not clear to everyone. Therefore, it would be useful to summarize all the conditions here in one or two sentences. First, "culture of the organization, whichPersonality is the individual or covert unifying theme that provides meaning, direction, and mobilization. "It consists of shared values, beliefs, assumptions, perceptions, norms, symbols, artifacts, and patterns of behavior.

Secondly, we will now define each of these concepts. "Symbols" are evidence that suggests greater importance than they express themselves and a lot more than its actual content. "Embody and combine symbols representing broader patterns of meaning and lead people towith ideas, which in turn provide them with their deeper, richer and often an emotional appeal purposes (21). "Artefacts are tangible and intangible objects and structures (eg, dress code & Annual Meeting Warrant) that communicate, intentionally or unintentionally to general information about the organizational technology, beliefs, values, etc., language, jargon, myths are stories, metaphors, organizational scripts, rites and legends included in the concept ofArtifacts.

Three behavioral patterns relate to routine activities such as rites and rituals that differ communicate through repetition information technology organization, beliefs, values and assumptions. These rituals are so powerful that they are a movement, time, location, language, govern sequence of activities participants answer, artifacts, and use metaphors and symbols that guide responses (36).

Fourth, another way to introduce these concepts is to consider them as three levelsOrganization of Culture (Schein to 54). Artifacts are level 1 They are visible, but not read to. Values and beliefs, level 2, are less visible than artifacts. They are verifiable in the physical environment, but only by social consensus. Basic assumption, Level 3, are the least visible and are taken for granted. These levels are in the shaping of cultural change and the importance of research strategies. A macro-organizational theorists would be located on level 3 and behaviorism at the level1.

Fifth, organizational cultures are not monolithic, which takes place, the concept of sub-cultures. "All institutions of all sizes have subcultures, bags, where the organizational culture varies to some extent by the culture in other pockets of the dominant culture (45)."

Load, sources of origin of the culture come from three categories: the broader social culture, is in the organization, type of business organizationEnvironmental values of the founders or early dominant leaders. Recruitment (or anticipatory socialization), training) (socialization, the removal of deviants and incentives and control structures (reinforcement) are the means to perpetuate the company culture.

Once the basic concepts concerning the organizational culture, clarified, we turn our attention to the issue of research in this area. If organizational culture as espoused beliefs and values, then definequasi-experimental design with questionnaires, surveys and interviews can be used. However, if the organizational culture as a basic underlying assumptions is defined, and whether significant differences between espoused and operational values are present longitudinal and qualitative research methods or ethnographic paradigm is needed. It is better to collect information from such sources with multiple sources) triangulation (eg, archiving of data. The researchers must be on the lookout for physicalArtifacts, archival records, "Language", myths, tales, legends, etc.

Rest of the book is devoted to discussion of the various theories and schools of the organization and the growth of organizational culture paradigm. Several schools are discussed, including classical school, mentoring, s, human resources, school systems perspective, communication) perspective, bureaucracy and decision-making models (including the power politics paradigm.

Finally, I mustnot to mention the sources of growth of the organizational culture perspective. "The overarching concept of culture seems to be consistent with the classical philosopher Bernard Chester (1938), emerged claiming the importance of norms and moral codes in infusion organizations with value-systems (172). Selznick (1957), McGregor (1960), Schein (1961), Jacques (1952) and Whyte (1956) are other classical thinkers, who gave impetus to the prospect. In addition to dissatisfaction with the structuralApproaches to organizational studies, the external events, which had generated interest in the perspective of "the relative ease with which Chinese brainwashing of U.S. POWs in Korea and led to 1961 note book (177). In the 1970s, however, interest waned in cultural approach. The concept of social construction of reality and meaning (Bolman and Deal, 1984 and others) back part of the interest in the perspective to a certain extent. Periodically, there are studies inOrganization with this perspective. It is not, however, moves to the dominant streams in the organization of research, because they have the organizational studies to learn more about the concerns of the times (such as "learning organization") and partly from methodological limitations. While mainstream perspectives soft to hard with the tangible, quantitative variables, knowledge, perspective focuses more on less tangible and essential variables like implicit beliefs which arequalitative, ethnographic studies of long-term effort and low pay-off, because not many magazines that have an interest in their disclosure. That is not to diminish the value of perspective in any way!

Book Review - Rebellion Against Victorianism - The Impetus for Cultural Change in 1920's America

เขียนโดย Eva | 14:51

The 1920s in America was a decade of rebellion, reform and reaction as a traditional Victorian values came under attack from all sides. If different groups of intellectuals, blacks, feminists, and dissatisfied economic and political groups attacked on Victorianism.

Through a descriptive writing style is Stanley Coben on the reasons for the enormous cultural changes in the 1920s and explains historically. He begins with the concept of Victorian "character", whichis a term for Americans of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. A sign that, as Coben's own definition, was reliably controlled, thought punctual, orderly, diligent, conscientious, sober, respect for other people's property rights of Victorians, ready to postpone immediate gratification for long-term goals, usually at a godly kind of God, the truth of the Bible, strong home and family oriented, honest in relations with other Victorians, concerned about self-improvement in a way that may seem obsessive modern observers and patriotic.

In subsequent chapters, he shows how intelligence develops, how the values have changed over time, intellectuals, and how it led inevitably to conflict and he vividly describes the events that support the growth of this intellectual subculture. Make it easier to understand, he presents the events in a time frame of four especially those damages.

The> Book pays special attention to cultural issues, showing how art forms of the 20s such as jazz or the novels of Ernest Hemingway and Sinclair Lewis were part of the rebellion. It devotes an entire chapter to describe how the steady flow of black migrants north, causing demographic changes and proposed ways to improve them on their status and to enforce their activities. And then Jazz as one of the most destructive activities of the blacks was to remain there, as Leopold Stokowski, conductorThe Philadelphia Orchestra, claimed in 1924:

"Jazz has come to stay ... and it is pointless to fight them. Even his strength, his new vitality begins to manifest itself.

The Negro musicians of America play a major role in this process of change. ... They are not constrained by traditions or conventions, to flow with their new ideas, their constant attempts to create new blood in the veins of the music. In America, I think, lies perhaps the greatest hope in the wholemusical world. "

If one by feminist movements and the changes in the economic and political order of the country that set the scene for the rebellion, in the end there is a fascinating chapter on the Ku Klux Klan, which the Klan as a visible and powerful guardian of Victorianism shows during the 1920s.

What makes it a little more is nice is the new perspective that Coben brings to show how the contradictions exist sparked the rebellion in the 1920s, nor werethose who are brought together workers, farmers, socialists, ethnic groups, intellectuals, black leaders and many feminists.

Coben study is especially valuable for its perfect historical analysis. In fact, it has got a refreshing change from the boring history texts. Representation of the relationship between culture and politics was through the description of the process of a phenomenon in the history of a country like America, he gives the reader a real example, it may be thatconsidered and compared with similar problems. Consider the process by which Coben leads the reader to some conclusions, and think about today's problems is artfully decorated and at the same time as it addresses the existing problems with violence is palpable. But it might be better if the idea was proposed at the end be further developed to provide more evidence for the readers and they make better decisions. Yet rebellion against Victorianism certainly receive carefulAttention of scientists and students in the intersections between culture and politics are interested in, and concern over the continued presence of similar problems. It may also be a good supplementary text for use in undergraduate courses in the 20 Century American history or American studies with emphasis on courses in the twentieth century cultural development. It is unfortunate if it does not cause or contribute to a discussion about the actual role of cultural policy changesand examining the same issues in contemporary society.
