From Everyman to Elegy - The Translation of a Novel

Everyone is a novel by Philip Roth. The title refers to a medieval game under the same name, in summary:

Here begins an essay) (fairy tales, such as the high Father of heaven sends death of every creature to come and give their lives because of the call in this world, told in the form of a morality play. (wikipedia)

That gives an idea of the novel by Philip Roth. In addition to the death, is another important part of the history of disease. These two have to decide whether to read itthe book or not.

The key phrase appears somewhere at the end of the novel when the hero once again contacted some former colleagues by telephone after years of silence to wish them good luck. All, like himself, suffer from some kind of disease. He calls them into action when a review of his own life and tries to make up some of the moral mistakes he made in his life. Error, the "inevitable." In this context, the protagonist says: "Age is not a struggle, old age is aMassacre. "

There are two major career pass in the story:
- The protagonist is a creative director
- The gravedigger
The career of his brother in the story is to show only the spirit of the time, he works works for Goldman Sachs.

One of the last scenes of the hero, talking ex art director, ex painter with the gravedigger at the cemetery, where his parents are buried, is very striking. If a scene is going to survive in this book in my memory, it is certainlythis one.

Now, in the Spanish version of the book, the title was changed Elegy (by the Translator: Jordi Fibla). Why, I wonder?

This is part of Spanish culture, I think. Title of the films and books will be changed. Anyone could easily have been translated (as it is in German: "everybody"), but seems to elegy, which is in the book, although the term elegy not displayed before.

The title is the theme of the book moreexplicitly. And was not that necessary, I think.
